Welcome to the San Mateo County Superior Court. To learn more about the court system and the role that judges play in the criminal justice system, we have developed the following interactive exercise for use in high schools.
PART I outlines the facts of a criminal case. Most of the description is based on a real case in San Mateo County.
PART II asks questions about the case, invites you to give your opinion, and suggests issues the Judge would typically look at.
After your class reviews this exercise, a Judge from our court can come to your school and discuss this and other court issues with you.
On behalf of the San Mateo County Superior Court, I would like to recognize and thank two students; Kevin Borella of St. Ignatius High School and Jason Hall of Bellarmine High School for their help and contributions to this project. We appreciate their help as we wanted to ensure that this project is meaningful and helpful to students interested in the court system.
If you are interested in having a Judge come to your high school, or have any questions or input about this project, please contact Judge Mark R. Forcum at (650) 261-5108 or by email at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thank you for your interest in our courts.
