Judicial Philosophy:

Like an umpire, I strive to be fair and consistent. While operating in a formal setting, I believe that the attorneys should be allowed to try their cases. Attorneys should show up on time and be prepared for their hearings or trial. Jurors' time is very valuable; once the jury has been informed of the trial schedule, counsel are expected to abide by that schedule and not inconvenience the jury.

Elected Presiding Judge of the San Mateo County Superior Court by his colleagues in 2004, Judge George A. Miram currently serves in that capacity. His term expires in December 2006. He is responsible for the day-to-day assignments and overall operation of the San Mateo County courts. Previously, Judge Miram served as assistant presiding judge for the calendar years 2003 and 2004.

Since his appointment to the San Mateo County bench in March 1995, George A. Miram has handled both criminal and civil assignments.

In 1996-2001, Judge Miram served as one of two civil case management judges for the San Mateo County Superior Court. Judge Miram has served as chair of the Multi-Option Alternate Dispute Resolution Program, a joint program of the San Mateo County Bar and the Superior Court. Judge Miram currently heads the Jury Committee of the Superior Court and has served on the Board of Directors of the Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center. Judge Miram also lectures in the Master's Degree Program in Public Administration at Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont in the fields of Administrative and Labor Law.
