RESPONSE TO THE "SAN MATEO COUNTY PUBLIC OFFICIALS COMPENSATION

AND BENEFITS SURVEY" GRAND JURY REPORT

Subject: Clarification on San Mateo County Public Officials

Compensation and Benefits Survey

Thank you for sending Coastside County Water District a copy of the San Mateo County Public Officials Compensation and Benefits Survey. On the attachment titled "Statutory", Coastside County Water District Individual Board Member Annualized Pay is listed as $2,400.00. The District does not have annual pay for the Directors, but provides compensation of $100.00 per meeting per Director. The Board typically holds only one meeting per month. ($100.00 per meeting x 12 meetings per year = $1,200.00 per year, per Director).

During the period of time covered by your survey, the District held numerous special meetings, which raised the compensation level higher than $1,200.00 per year, per Director. Starting in September of 2001, the Board went back to one meeting per month, so a much lower Board compensation figure will be reflected in future surveys.
