San Mateo Courts - Civil Grand Jury
Response from City
of Menlo Park
The City Council of the
City of Menlo Park reviewed the 2000-2001 Grand Jury Report and considered the
recommendations of the Grand Jury affecting the City of Menlo Park. I have been
directed to communicate the following responses on behalf of the City of Menlo
Park:
- Pet Overpopulation Program (POP): The City Council does not feel
that there is a pet overpopulation problem in the City of Menlo Park that
warrants the adoption of the San Mateo County POP ordinance. The City Council
has serious concerns that the cost of implementing the POP in the long run
would exceed any potential or perceived benefits of the POP ordinance. Finally,
the City Council concluded that the City has so many higher priorities that
it is not interested in devoting any further staff time to investigate or
evaluate the effectiveness and need for such a program. Accordingly, the City
will be taking no further actions to implement the POP ordinance.
- Inapplicability of other Recommendations: There are no other recommendations
affecting the City of Menlo Park in the 2000-2001 Grand Jury Report.
Please feel free to contact William L. McClure, City Attorney or to contact the
City Manager, David S. Boesch, if require any additional information or clarification.
