San Mateo Courts - Civil Grand Jury 1998 Final Report: Fiscal Department Head Meetings

Background:

Previous grand juries have recommended that the County Manager hold periodic meetings with all County Fiscal Department Heads, and that members of the San Mateo County 1998 Grand Jury Fiscal/Budget Committee be included. The purpose of these meetings is to establish a forum for an exchange of budgetary control information among the participants, as well as serving as a learning process for members of the Grand Jury Fiscal/Budget Committee. These meetings are held on a quarterly basis with the County Manager providing the agenda.

The San Mateo County 1997 Grand Jury recommended that the 1998 Grand Jury continue to monitor the progress and benefits of these meetings.

Findings:

Members of the 1998 Grand Jury Fiscal/Budget Committee attended these meetings and determined that the interchange was valuable.

Recommendation:
Recommendation 25: The County Manager should continue to hold quarterly meetings of the Fiscal Department Heads. Members of the San Mateo County Grand Jury Fiscal/Budget Committee should participate in these meetings. Further, the progress for conversion of computers, information systems and embedded devices for the change to year 2000, which included timing, contingency plans and third party involvement, should continue to be reviewed at these meetings.
