Abuse generally escalates over time and in intensity. Thus it is important to plan for your safety BEFORE you take any legal action or tell your partner you want to end the relationship. Your partner may view your leaving the relationship as a loss of control over you which may lead to more violence. Call one of the domestic violence agencies listed above for help in making a safety plan, whether you decide to stay in the relationship or leave.
