Request Copies by Mail

The Criminal Division on the 4th floor in the Hall of Justice in Redwood City provides copy work for Unlimited Criminal cases if you are the defendant or the attorney of record. For copy work or file viewing of Limited Criminal cases for the Southern Jurisdiction, these are also available at the same location. For copies of Limited Criminal cases in the Northern Jurisdiction, please contact the Criminal Division at 1050 Mission Road, South San Francisco.

You will need to include:

  • Case Number
  • Defendant's Name
  • Approximate Filed date of the document or description
  • Self-addressed postage paid envelope
  • Appropriate fee

If you don't have the case number, you may conduct a search by accessing our Public Records Index or you may retain the services of a local copy service to assist you. The Criminal Division does not research files.

A fee of $0.50 per side is charged, with an additional $25.00 for certified copies. If the file is offsite, there is a fee of $10 per file for offsite retrieval. Effective July 1, 2012 copying and file retrieval fees apply to all public agencies, Government Code §70633(b) and §70631.

Please make your checks payable to "Superior Court". If you're unsure how many pages the document contains, please write, "Not to Exceed $40.00" in the memo section of your check. We'll fill in the amount and provide you with a receipt showing you the amount you were charged. If you're requesting a large document or multiple certified copies, please increase your "Not to Exceed" amount accordingly. Once we receive your letter, you may expect a reply within 21 days.
