While on the Superior Court, Judge McDonald served as a general trial judge for several years and at one time or another was assigned to every calendar department on the court. In 1983, he was Presiding Judge of the Court. The last eight years on the court, he was assigned to a full-time civil settlement calendar. It is his conservative estimate that he conducted in excess of 5000 settlement conferences during this period.
